Senior Electrical Engineer
Los Angeles, CA
Mesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that photons will unlock the next evolution of human technology. Today, we're putting that vision into practice by developing the world's most advanced optical computing hardware.
We believe in engineering to the limit of physics, building our own factories, and writing software that maximizes the capability of our hardware. As we embark on this journey, we're seeking a senior Electrical Engineer who is motivated by our goal to operate the highest volume optical manufacturing facility in North America.
As our Electrical Engineer, you'll play a critical role in the development and launch of our first product:
Optical Interconnects — High-bandwidth optical interconnects are fundamental to the future of computing. We are developing next-generation interconnects, pushing the limits of high-speed data transmission beyond 100G and powering the rest of our business. This work involves high-speed PCB design, RF simulation, signal integrity optimization, and system-level integration.
What you'll do
- Lead the development of our next-generation optical interconnect boards and associated circuitry.
- Select optimal PCB materials and VIA packaging solutions to maximize performance, reliability, signal integrity, and manufacturability.
- Run high-speed signal integrity and RF simulations to ensure robust performance at speeds beyond 100G.
- Collaborate with software teams developing hardware control and link optimization software.
- Play an active role in our production process by factoring high volume manufacturing into every design decision.
- Plan and execute an iteration strategy in the components you own to achieve optimal cost, yield, and reliability as we scale our manufacturing footprint.
- Provide technical mentorship and interview candidates as we build and grow a world class electrical engineering team.
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in designing and developing mixed-signal systems from design trades to production including component level selection and implementation of processors, FPGAs, multi-GHz SerDes, I2C, and SPI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to drive hardware reliability over the full life cycle of a product.
- Experience working effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience with high-speed signal integrity and RF simulation.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical expertise.
- Leadership experience mentoring engineers and managing complex projects.
- Strong understanding of programming languages (Python, C/C++)
- Exceptional communication skills and a relentless drive to push technological boundaries beyond your own core competencies.
Compensation and benefits
- Competitive cash salary commensurate with experience and merit.
- Eligibility for long-term incentives including company stock options and discretionary bonuses awarded for exceptional achievements.
- Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance.
- Paid parental leave and flexible PTO (3 weeks vacation + 10 company holidays).
